Extraordinary
Views…Spectacular Scenery…
Welcome to Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain.
|
 |
Named for explorer Lt. Zebulon Pike, its striking beauty has inspired countless travelers,
and helped shape our nation’s history. Nearly six
million people visit the Pikes Peak region each year.
Visitors to the Peak can enjoy breathtaking vistas, hiking,
picnicking, fishing, and a variety of other attractions, including
our world famous 14,000-foot donut. |
| Three ways to travel, one unforgettable destination.
Early travelers relied on horses and mules to reach the
14,110-foot summit, but you can use your family car. Take the
safe, scenic drive to the top via the world’s highest toll
road. Or, you can reach the summit by train, or by hiking scenic
Barr Trail. |

Oh beautiful for spacious skies…you may recognize the
first line of this famous song, but did you know Pikes Peak
inspired it? In 1893, Katharine Lee Bates ascended the mountain
and was so moved by the breathtaking views of the surrounding
mountains and sweeping plains, she wrote the poem that
ultimately became "America the Beautiful". |
